Audiovisual and Broadcast Directors - Overview

Overview

The programs in the food services and management subcluster prepare people to manage and provide the food for food service institutions. Examples of food service institutions include restaurants, school cafeterias, and catering companies.

Culinary arts programs focus on teaching you how to prepare food, develop recipes, and plan menus.

Food services and technology programs teach you to assist with food preparation. This assistance ranges from chopping vegetables in a restaurant kitchen to mixing drinks at a bar to cutting and packaging meat in a factory.

The other programs teach you to manage the wide range of duties involved with running a restaurant or other food service institution. In addition to learning the basics of food preparation, you also learn to keep track of resources, manage a budget, train and supervise staff, and even design facilities.
